Martin L Boyd

Martin L. Boyd Memorial Scholarship

The Martin L. Boyd scholarship was established to honor a man of strong faith who was an astute businessman of great integrity. A lifelong member of Liberty United Methodist Church, Mr. Boyd came from a family of educators and greatly valued a good education. He contributed to college costs for not only members of his family, but also his employees who sought to further their educations.

Upon Mr. Boyd’s death in 1998, his widow, Jean, executed the very generous endowment he made for the membership of Liberty Church aspiring to attend college. The Martin L. Boyd Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999 as the result of Jean’s dedication to Martin’s vision.

Jean Clark Boyd was an educator herself, teaching at Heard Elementary and tutoring children in her home. She was an instrumental founder of Windsor Academy; her work on the Macon/Bibb Public Library Board of Trustees resulted in bringing the Charles A. Lanford Library to South Bibb County. Jean oversaw every facet of the Boyd Scholarship until her death in 2022. Her firm, quiet charm shone brightly and resulted in great success in creating a legacy that will remain in perpetuity.

Currently enrolled applicants and prospective applicants must be on the active membership role of Liberty Church Macon. Applicants must apply each academic year and meet all eligibility requirements listed on the application form.
